Connect Boards & Mirror Columns In monday.com (Complete Guide)

Length: 26:28 Chapters: 17 Published: 30 Sep 2026

How the Connect Boards column links items across boards, how mirror columns show data from connected items, two-way connections, summary options, single and multiple connections, connecting several boards, multi-layer mirroring, automations and reporting. The full written breakdown is below the video.

How Do You Connect Two Boards In monday.com?

Add a Connect Boards column to one board and choose the board to link to. Despite the name, it connects items rather than whole boards: you link an item on board A to items on board B.

  1. Press the plus button at the end of your columns, or the three dots on any column and Add column to the right, then More columns.
  2. Search for the Connect boards column and press Add to board.
  3. Press Select boards and pick the board to link to. If it isn't in the recent list, use the search bar at the top.
  4. Leave the two-way option off for now, press Connect boards and skip the offer to add a mirror column.
  5. Click into the new column on an item and tick the items on the other board you want to link.

How Do You Add A Mirror Column In monday.com?

A mirror column shows a column from the connected item on the other board and updates when it changes there. Change an item's status on board B and the mirror column on board A changes with it.

  1. Press the plus button, search for mirror and select it.
  2. Press Connect and choose the Connect Boards column to mirror through. This matters once a board has more than one.
  3. Select the other board, then the column to show, such as its status.
  4. Rename the mirror column so it's clear where the data comes from, such as Board B Status.

Add a mirror column for each data point you need. The summary options depend on the column type: a status can show a summary of all labels, and a date can show the earliest, the latest or earliest to latest.

How Do You Turn On A Two-Way Connection?

Turn it on in the Connect Boards column's settings. Without it, board A shows the connection but board B has no sign of it.

  1. Press the three dots on the Connect Boards column, choose Settings, then the option to customise the column.
  2. Turn on the two-way connection and press Add columns. This adds a matching Connect Boards column to the other board.
  3. On board B, rename the new column and add mirror columns to pull data back from board A, such as its revenue.

If you're building monday.com with AI, the AI doesn't know about this setting at all, so you'll need to turn it on by hand. To remove a two-way relationship later, delete the columns.

A mirror column stays empty until the connected item has a value in that column.

Can You Connect Several Items To One Item?

Yes. Press the plus button in the Connect Boards column and tick the extra items. The mirror column on the other board then summarises every connected item, and you choose how in that mirror column's settings.

For numbers the options include sum, average, median, min, max and count. With two connected items showing revenue of 100,000 and 50,000, the sum is 150,000 and the average 75,000.

It works the other way too. Link one item to several items on the other board and a status mirror shows each connected item's label, while a date mirror can show the range from earliest to latest as a timeline.

Can You Limit A Connect Boards Column To One Item?

Yes. In the column's settings, untick Allow linking of multiple items. Each item can then link to only one item, and there's no way to select more.

You can't untick it while an item has more than one connection, so remove the extras first. With a two-way connection, the limit also stops you linking several items from the other board, even though that board's column still allows multiple.

Can One Connect Boards Column Link To Several Boards?

Yes. One column can link to items on several boards, and with two-way on, each board you add gets its own connection column.

  1. Open the Connect Boards column's settings from the three dots.
  2. Press Connect more boards, select the extra board and press Connect boards.
  3. When linking items, use the dropdown at the top of the list to switch between boards.

A mirror column on that connection then needs a column chosen from each board. Use the same type of column on every board, such as status with status. You can't mix a date from one board with a status from another, which monday.com does on purpose, and we wouldn't recommend it even if you could.

If the boards don't have matching columns, use a separate Connect Boards column instead.

How Do You Give Each Board Its Own Connection?

Add a second Connect Boards column to the same board and connect it to just the one board, set as a two-way connection. Each connection and its mirror columns then stay separate.

We then removed board C from the original shared column by disconnecting it in the column's settings. Be careful doing this on a live board: disconnecting a board unlinks all of its items, so past connections are lost. Delete the leftover column on board C afterwards.

How Do You Tell Which Connection A Mirror Column Uses?

By colour. Each Connect Boards column and its mirror columns share an underlying colour, so with two connections on one board, one set might be green and the other grey or orange. The colour can change when you move columns, and you'll see more colours as you add more.

It matters because each new mirror column has to be connected to the right Connect Boards column, so to pull data from board C, pick the board C connection. Mirrors aren't limited to ordinary columns either: we mirrored the name of the group the connected item sits in.

Can You Mirror A Mirror Column?

Yes, this is multi-layer mirroring, but we'd be careful with it, as monday.com doesn't like it, is cracking down on it and regularly makes changes that can break it. There are also limits on what these columns can do, such as being used in formulas.

  1. Connect board C to board B with a two-way Connect Boards column.
  2. On board B, add a mirror column through the board C connection, such as board C's status.
  3. On board A, add a mirror column through the existing board B connection and choose board B's mirror column as the data to show.

Board A then shows board C's status by way of board B. It works, but it gets confusing quickly, so keep it for when you really need data to pass across several boards.

Can You Use Mirror Columns In Automations & Reports?

Yes for reporting, but in automations only as a condition. At the time of the video, a change in a mirror column can't trigger a native automation. That used to work, and a plugin can still do it.

  1. Go to Automate, then Manage, then Create automation.
  2. Pick a trigger on the board's own columns, such as when status changes to done.
  3. Choose Add condition, then the smart condition, and select the mirror column from the item columns.
  4. Type in the value it has to equal. You have to write it out by hand.

Reporting is straightforward: mirror data from one board onto another and you can report on data from both boards.
